3D Scanning on Archaeological Excavations
Roman Houses on the Caelian Hill
This project aims to create a diachronic, digital model of the architecture and finds for the site. The georeferenced, scaled 3D model will simply be a tool to visually record, analyse, and study how the building and its finds and interior decor changed over time.
Digital House of Marcus Lucretius
In the summer of 2017, our team completed the first round of digitization of the house itself. In the summer of 2018, we completed another round of photogrammetry, and digitized the sculpture from the garden currently located in the Pompeii Deposito. Please see the initial results of these campaigns below.
Villa Oplontis Project
The goal of the project was to digitize the Villa of Oplontis in Pompeii, in collaboration with the excavation team from UT Austin. So far, we have digitised over half of the villa, and used the model to analyse viewsheds and previous sculpture arrangements.
3D Scanning in Museums
Digital Roman Portrait Project
This project sought to create an online catalog for Roman portraits in the Michael C. Carlos Museum, and the Eskenazi Museum of Art. We catalogued over 30 Roman portraits digitally. This project was handed off to the development staff at the museum after the creation of the 3D models.
Uffizi Digitization Project
The Virtual World Heritage Laboratory (VWHL), in collaboration with partners at the Politecnico di Milano and the University of Florence, is digitizing in 3D digitization the complete collection of Greek and Roman sculpture in the Uffizi, Pitti Palace, and Boboli Gardens on behalf of the Gallerie degli Uffizi.
Digital Villa Ludovisi Project
The goal of the project was to digitize the Casino dell’Aurora, its surrounding gardens, and the sculpture. The project was a paper for the College Art Association and foresees the creation of a related scientific, free website offering access to site, in collaboration with Emory.
